The biggest advantage of EMS leggings is not the technology. It’s that there is no appointment standing in your way. To make sure that works in practice, here is the process, straight to the point.
The process in four steps
1. Put them on. The leggings are designed to be tight, and that is not a design flaw. The electrode pads must have contact with the skin; otherwise, no impulse will get through. Put them on like sports leggings and ensure the pads are lying flat and haven't shifted.
2. Select mode. Use the control unit on the waistband. At the beginning, it doesn't matter which one you choose. Pick one and stick with it until you get a feel for it. Anyone who tries a different program every day in the first week won't know which one did what in the end.
3. Increase intensity. Start at level 1. Really at level 1, even if that feels overly cautious. Then turn it up in single steps until you clearly feel the contraction. Stay there. Do not go a level higher, because more is not necessarily better.
4. Let it run. 10 minutes per application is recommended. During this time, you can sit, stand, walk around the house, or sit on the sofa. You don't have to lie down and don't need to do anything else.
How often makes sense
There is no reason to use them daily. A muscle that has been worked needs time, and it gets that if there is a day in between.
What is practical: three to four days a week, 10 minutes each time. That’s 40 minutes a week. Anyone who wants to turn that into 20 minutes at a stretch won't gain anything that the shorter session doesn't provide.
Consistency is more important than frequency. Three sessions per week for two months is something completely different than twelve sessions in the first week and then nothing else. This is not a special feature of EMS; it applies to every form of exercise.
When during the day
There is no "best" time. The question that matters instead: When do you find it easiest to remember?
Common answers: during your lunch break while working from home, while watching a series in the evening, in the morning with your coffee. The common denominator is that it is attached to something that happens every day anyway. Resolutions without a firm anchor rarely last longer than two weeks.
The four mistakes that happen at the beginning
Too high a level on the first try. The most common one. It feels uncomfortable, and afterwards, the leggings stay in the closet. Level 1 is not a sign of timidness, but the intended starting point.
Dry skin. Very dry skin conducts poorly. If the impulse feels weak or sharp in certain spots, it often helps to lightly moisten the area beforehand. Contact gel is not needed for integrated pads.
Wearing over underwear. Fabric between the pad and the skin interrupts the contact. The leggings are worn directly on the skin.
Expectation after three days. Anyone who looks in the mirror after three sessions and sees nothing hasn't done anything wrong. The timeframe is simply too short to judge anything.
While exercising or not
The leggings are cut like sports leggings, so you can wear them during a workout. Whether you turn the impulses on while doing so is your choice. Doing both simultaneously is unfamiliar because voluntary and triggered contractions overlap. If you try it, use a lower level than usual.
What you don't have to do
No warming up, no stretching beforehand, no specific body posture, no nutritional rules surrounding it. Anything you come across on the web regarding this belongs to a training plan, not to this device.
Briefly summarized
- Put them on, select mode, turn up from level 1, let run for 10 minutes
- Three to four times per week, with rest days
- Attach to an existing habit, not a resolution
- Wear directly on the skin
- Consistency beats intensity
